Enteroimmune diseases are not just bowel diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s disease, but also include both systemic and neurological diseases. Through explanation of the immune pathology underlying diseases local to immune reactions in the gut, it becomes clear how these same immune mechanisms cause systemic and neurological disease. Enteroimmunology explains the emerging understanding of the ecology of the gut and its relationship with diet, food and nutrition, and includes citations for nearly 2000 medical journal articles. It describes how IgG antergies to food, which are analogous to IgE allergies, cause a wide array of disease symptoms. Enteroimmunology deftly illustrates the most important connection in the treatment of chronic diseases, namely the Gut -Immune connection. It does so with an attention to detail, and easy to read descriptive language, that is hard to find in these types of texts. The understanding it brings to this highly complex and cutting edge medical subject is phenomenal. If your in the practice of Functional medicine you owe it to your patients to read this book...a few times.

This book is written for the practicing physician or advanced medical student. For them it is a must read. For the general public, well perhaps more than they might want to chew on. Lewis provides the most useful overview of digestion, gut function, and gut dysfunction I have yet read. He makes the connection between gut dysfunction and chronic disease and provides valuable insights into treating the autoimmune diseases directly triggered by intestinal problems.

I love to write because I learn while I’m writing. I never approach writing a book as an expert. I believe that we are all teachers and students to one another. I will recommend this!

Until I read the book, my life was in a complete mess. I graduated from a polytechnic and landed myself in a job which I don't like. Worst still I am stuck with a 3 years bond with my current company. Going to work everyday became so stressful until I felt like giving up. I was constantly blaming myself.

That was when my boyfriend introduced this book to me. I totally relate to what the author mentioned. Every chapter is short and comprehensive and is really useful to apply to my daily life and work. I learned that my life is not about work. The author taught me to value my time to do things which I like. Most importantly, reserve some time for myself. Whenever I feel lost, I will refer back to the book to get my peace of mind back. What touches me the most is the line "Do less thinking and pay more attention to your heart." Whenever I go to work I will remember this and pay more attention to giving.

This is really a good book and I bet you would want to carry it with you everyday!

Good book, covers many aspects of culture

I used the book in my Latin American Cult. and Civ. class. Overall, I liked it. It covers a good range of topics, besides the classics (such as politics, history, economy, etc). The questions at the end of every chapter are clear and a good help for students. I have used the first 300 pages or so as "class material", the rest were part of individual presentations.
One negative aspect, I don't consider necesary to have a new edition every year. it is very expensive for students. Probably, it would be nice to have a new edition every 5 years, the changes on politics, economy, etc, could be covered by emails (as it is now, too). E-mails updating material makes more sense to me that new editions every year. I plan to stick with the cuarta edicion for more years.

Kindle version is lacking

I just bought the Kindle edition of this book and it is really poorly put together. The whole format looks like a draft of a book, not a published book. Most importantly I see NO PAGE NUMBERS! There is a table of contents - but this does not include page numbers either. Having no page numbers makes it very hard to use this book in class and to find homework assignments. I'm hoping there is a way to return kindle books!

Really REALLY Easy...

Like that the book is spiral bound, but these pieces are for true piano beginners. Most of the songs are just a couple of notes and aren't in the real key or even consist of the entire piece. It's a fun book for kids starting out or adults who are learning. Not for more experienced players.

Less frustration

I'm an adult who has been learning for years. But it's really challenging for me, and many of the 'easy' books aren't. I was getting pretty frustrated, but this book is great. The songs are pretty and you can add chords or octaves if you want to make them more advanced.

classy, but not very practical

I like this book. It's from the U.K. and is not distributed in the U.S., so that's why copies are so expensive.

These are low-level piano classics, all of them simplified. I would say about level 3 for most of them. For example, there will be minuets from Anna Magdalena, but the ornaments (even the staccatos) will be removed. The difficulty seems to progress as one works one's way through the book, though the increase is only slight and so this might be my imagination.

The book, I think, is not designed for serious use, though it does come spiral-bound. There are no instructions or comments on the pieces, and the pages are all colored dark pastels. There is a nice little historical blurb for every piece.

One thing that's super-great is that while the book does not come with a CD, there is a link to a site where you can download sound files of all the pieces in the book to hear how they're supposed to sound. The sound files are just the pure piano, which is nice. I hate it when it's the piano with other distracting instruments in the background.

There's much better fare than this if you actually want to sit down and go through the book.

Nevertheless, I would recommend this book for special occasions, such as if you have a student who's graduated from grade 4 to 5 and you'd like to get him a special gift.

He explains the methods cartographers must use to distort reality in representing a complex, three-dimensional world on a flat sheet or screen, and how they exclude information and geographic features in order to create a readable and understandable map. Mark Monmonier is distinguished professor of geography at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. He has been editor of The American Cartographer and president of the American Cartographic Association, and has served on advisory panels for the National Research Council and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Great for non-cartographers wanting to start a deeper understanding of maps.

This is an excellent, easy-to-read overview of challenges and choices that face cartographers... and how those choices can be used to get across particular messages using the language of maps. Although it could be enhanced if another edition ever came out, this 2nd Edition is still relevant to understanding and interpreting maps.

Good book but needs a update

This book does a good job at explaining maps and how data can be skewed through different techniques. Overall it was a good book but it is terribly outdated. This especially shows toward the end when talking about maps and computers. It's a good book to learn basic principles, not the right choice for stuff GIS related.

A useful addition

Maps are one of hte commonest kind of information graphic. They occur in many forms, in many contexts, and commonly carry more data per square inch than just about any other kind of diagram. Also, a map carries some sense of authority and may even inspire a kind of loyalty - surely you know at least one map fanatic? That carrying capacity and authority can be used badly as easily as used well: incompetently, to make some point at the expense of others, or intentionally to misdirect.

The book's first section reminds us that every map contains mis- or missing information - if only because the world is round and the map is flat. Later, Mommonier gives examples of incompetence showing how information, especially in color, can be illegible.

He also shows how maps can affect political decisions as close as your own back yard, the maps used to make land planning and zoning decisions. He works up from town hall politics to the international scale, including some remarkable Cold War artifacts. He mentions esthetics only briefly, mostly to point out how the decision to make a map look nice can corrupt its data content. This is a loss since esthetics don't inherently conflict with the message, but good illustrators already know how to create visual appeal and bad ones should not be encouraged.

This is a useful addition for anyone who creates or uses information in picture form. It's not as broad as other books, but adds depth to discussions about one particular kind of information graphic. The wide ranging and well categorized bibliography is just an extra.
