There are a lot interesting facts concerning all different languages, words and phrases; while it is very interesting it really bothers me that none of it is cited. This book is authored by Charles Berlitz, so maybe, since he is an authority on language he doesn't need to cite his work, but it would have been nice. Either way it's an engaging read, however, I wouldn't go around quoting it without backing up some of the statements with a source to confirm them.

A companion CD includes musical selections that complement and expand upon this theme. The contributors—historians, musicologists, folklorists, and scholars of German studies—include Philip V. About the Author

With well over four decades of experience, Mick Walker’s motorcycling career has been comprehensive to say the least. He has ridden in most forms of motorcycle sport, and has been the British importer for several makes of exotic Italian race-bred machines. Between 1983 and 1987 he was editor of Motorcycle Enthusiast and in 1985 his first book was published. Since then he has published over ninety books covering the history and development of motorcycles from several countries. Mick has also applied his expertise as a tuner, team manager and coach, where his skills have guided many to stardom, including World Superbike Champion, James Toseland.

Complete, great photos, terrific history

I really enjoyed this book. It's an in-depth history of the Norton Manx racing motorcycles from their inception, through their racing successes, famous tuners, and all the way to the current vintage scene.
There is reasonable technical information, but more enjoyable are the narratives of racing successes, the development of the bike, etc. There are lovely period photographs of the bikes in action, the engines as they evolved, period memorabilia, etc.
There are even sections on the use of the Manx engine in car racing, etc.
I truly enjoyed this book. As I am a fan of the Norton Manx bikes, I liked this book more than many of the other Norton books which describe all the single cylinder bikes, or the twins, etc.

Excessive focus on personalities and too little technical detail on the tuning and mechanical development of the motor. Little information of such essentials as specfic horsepower/torque figures of engines showing the increases and dates of important engineering milestones from early to late.

The Truth Behind Advertising

The real Master of this profession. If you are in advertising, marketing, and wanting to promote something then I would advise you to read this book. It is written candidly with a straightforwardness that we are missing in this ready-made, easy-to-do, by the so-called tech wizards who produce nothing but jargon and bottom line pricing that is FREE.

The advertising world is upside down and on its head. I think it should return to the originating principles outlined in this book. You get in this book what David Ogilvy says, that is the value of this kind of information, otherwise you just get what someone says Ogilvy says. Its too late now; but I would have loved to have worked for this kind of boss.

Book totally representative of the times

First of all, the appearance of the book itself impressed me. The hardcover and thick, pulpy pages reminded me of days spent in the library as a little girl. The writing is simple, even though many "big words" are used. The author has quite an extensive vocabulary which includes what I would call "trade terms or phrases". Confessions of an Advertising Man is a good read, letting the reader in on the workings of a major U. S. and worldwide service industry. The chapters include lots of lists where Ogilvy breaks down every category of the advertising world as well as other careers or jobs he had held. He names names and documents details. Lastly, though very informative, this book moved me to agree with Mad Men's Roger Sterling's remark about its title: "He should have named it 'A Thousand Reasons Why I'm So Great'!" Ogilvy must have had lots of self-confidence!

This book is both humorous and informative. A great read by the "father of advertising" David Ogilvy. Still known by his legacy Ogilvy and Mathers which still to this day is the number one advertising agency in the world. He gives you everything you need to know from creating advertisements to running an advertising firm and everyhting in between.

Systematic, traditional curriculum

Rod and Staff has a fantastic English curriculum. It builds continually upon itself in a systematic way. It is best to get in this as young as possible. My son is in college (Univ South Florida) now. When he was in sixth grade I tried to start him on R&S English. It was too advanced and we had to start a grade lower, although he was able to start on grade level with R&S Math. Even if you have to start a grade lower, you will not regret using this curriculum.

The best grammar you could find: the rules are explained well and easy to understand. It provides enough exercises to master a lesson. I love their focus on diagramming sentences. There are several oral and written assignments per lesson. Since it is a hard cover text it could be used by multiple students.
